CW Sports Is Coming to the ESPN App: What It Means for College Football, NASCAR, and WWE NXT Fans
Starting Summer 2026, all CW Sports live events will stream on the ESPN App for ESPN Unlimited subscribers. Here's what's included, what it costs, and what to do if you already cut the cord.
Quick answer: Starting Summer 2026, every CW Sports live event will stream inside the ESPN App for fans with an ESPN Unlimited subscription. That includes ACC, Pac-12, and Mountain West college football and basketball, the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, WWE NXT, PBR, AVP volleyball, and PBA bowling. The CW's free over-the-air broadcast still exists. The ESPN App becomes the streaming backstop.
The CW Network and ESPN announced a streaming agreement that puts more than 800 hours of live CW Sports inside the ESPN App every year. The CW will keep airing all of it for free over the air. The ESPN App becomes the streaming home for the same events, available to anyone with an ESPN Unlimited subscription.
The launch is targeted for Summer 2026.
What CW Sports actually includes
A lot of people don't realize how much live sport The CW has accumulated since launching CW Sports in 2023. Here is the full slate that will be streaming on the ESPN App:
| Property | Notes |
|---|---|
| NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series | All 33 races per year, exclusive to The CW through 2031 |
| ACC football and basketball | Men's and women's basketball, plus football |
| Pac-12 football and basketball | 13 regular season football games per year through 2030–31, plus the women's basketball tournament semifinals and championship |
| Mountain West football and basketball | 13 football games, 20 men's basketball games, 15 women's basketball games per year, starting Fall 2026 |
| WWE NXT | Live every Tuesday night |
| PBR Team Series | Bull riding |
| AVP | Pro beach volleyball |
| PBA | Professional bowling championship games |
| 2026 Arizona Bowl | Fourth straight year on The CW |
That is a real package. NASCAR alone is a ratings story. Every one of the first 10 races of the 2026 season has cleared a million viewers, and viewership is up 22 percent over last year's average.
Why this matters
Until now, CW Sports lived in a slightly awkward spot. The CW is a free over-the-air broadcast network, available to 100 percent of U.S. TV households via antenna. But cord-cutters who don't have an antenna, or who do but can't get a clean signal, had no good streaming option. You couldn't subscribe your way into a Pac-12 women's basketball game on The CW the same way you could on ESPN+ or Peacock.
That changes in Summer 2026. If you already have ESPN Unlimited, you'll get all of CW Sports inside the app you already use for college football, the UFC, and the rest of the ESPN catalog. No new subscription. No extra cost.
If you don't have ESPN Unlimited and you're a NASCAR fan, an ACC football fan, or a Mountain West fan in particular, this is suddenly a much more compelling reason to subscribe.
The catch
Two things to keep in mind.
First, this is exclusive to ESPN. When CW Sports launches on the ESPN App in Summer 2026, those events will not be available on FuboTV, DIRECTV STREAM, or any other live TV service for streaming purposes, unless those services already carry The CW as a local channel. The CW's over-the-air broadcast still exists. But the dedicated streaming home is now ESPN.
Second, the ESPN Unlimited plan is the gating subscription. ESPN's direct-to-consumer offering recently rebranded its tiering. If you have an older "ESPN+" subscription, you'll want to check whether your plan qualifies as ESPN Unlimited or whether an upgrade is needed. ESPN has also been bundling its service with Disney+ and Hulu, so existing Disney+ Hulu ESPN bundle subscribers should be covered.
What to do if you follow one of these teams
If you follow an ACC, Pac-12, or Mountain West school, the streaming picture for your team's football and basketball games gets cleaner this fall. Most of those conferences split their broadcast rights across multiple networks, so The CW games were the awkward outlier: broadcast-only, no streaming home. That's now solved.
If you're a NASCAR fan, this is the biggest practical shift. Every Cup Series race on The CW will be streamable on ESPN starting Summer 2026.
If you follow WWE NXT, your Tuesday night show now has a permanent streaming address.
When does it launch
ESPN and The CW have only said "Summer 2026" so far. We'll update this post when an exact launch date is announced.
